DESCRIPTION
PACT Tabs are small wooden discs inoculated with mycelium. Mycelium is the root system for fungi, and nature’s great decomposer. When added to the hole with poop, it accelerates break down and kills harmful pathogens like E. coli that can persist in the soil, contaminating waterways, harming wildlife and threatening public health. Mycelium converts human waste into bioavailable nutrients for the soil.
An overwhelming amount of research shows that this species of mycelium is safe, non-invasive and non-aggressive. The EU’s Global Register of Introduced and Invasive Species gives this species the lowest classification of risk having been introduced throughout Europe with no evidence of negative impact. On other continents it is used as a subsistence food source and as an organic soil additive. It’s a saprotrophic class of fungi so it only feeds on dead and decaying matter, providing essential ecological benefits. This is different from parasitic fungi which feed on living plants and animals.
This mycelium species provides unique services to the environment. Not only does it improve soil health, it also protects surrounding plants from devastating parasites. It has an entirely symbiotic relationship with other plant and animal species. After decomposition of poop is complete, the mycelium's lifecycle ends and it becomes food for other organisms in the soil.
PACT Tabs are approved for use on all public lands by the Code of Federal Regulations
